Sett’s Best Dressed Halloween Characters

OPENING

Halloween Suits Reimagined: Bespoke Tailoring Inspired by Film Icons

If you’ve been keeping up with our Instagram stories, you’ll have spotted our latest creative challenge — recreating bespoke Halloween suits from three of Halloween’s most stylish characters: The Joker, Beetlejuice, and Jack Skellington.
Using fabrics, linings, and buttons from our suppliers, we showcased how bespoke suits can reflect personality, confidence, and even a touch of cinematic flair.
Here’s how we at SETT Kilts and Tailoring, Glasgow, reimagined three of Halloween’s most iconic tailored suits through the lens of modern tailoring and personalised design.

THE JOKER – Theatrical Tailoring

Mark Bridges’ Joker Costume not only captures the characters theatrical flair but also grounds him in realism. Bridges reveals that the suit is built from garments The Joker already owns, like the yellow waistcoat first appearing at the beginning of the movie before reappearing in his final ensemble, symbolising the character’s transformation.

The three piece suit with its dramatic peak lapels, loose fit and bold mix of contrasting colours nods to flamboyant 1970s tailoring – particularly the longer-line silhouettes of Yves Saint Laurent’s 1971 collection.

Let’s walk you through how SETT would bring this colourful three- piece suit to life. Firstly, the foundation of the suit will be made with vibrant cloth and a patterned lining pulled from Bateman Ogden’s verve and lining collections. To top it all off, we included some sharp brown and black cap-toe oxford brogues from Hockerty.

BEETLEJUICE – Gothic Stripes

Another example of Halloween menswear is the Beetlejuice suit. With costume design by Coleen Atwood, the latest Beetlejuice film (2024) is strongly influenced by the original.
costumes seen in 1988. Instantly recognisable with its striking black and white stripes, this goth suit is a clear example of punk-inspired tailoring.
To recreate this look, we would choose to honour the reference and go for a similar striped cloth from Bateman Ogden’s ‘The Mill’ Collection. This would be accentuated with a bold pop of colour in the bright green lining pocket square from Dugdale Bros & Co Classic Linings Collection. This would be brought into the suit further with green buttons, continuing the reference to Beetlejuice’s iconic hair colour. Inside the jacket, a purple paisley from Huddersfield’s Flash Linings would be the perfect finishing touch by complementing this monstrous colour scheme and acknowledging Beetlejuice’s eccentric flair. To complete the outfit, green brogues from Melvin and Hamilton.

JACK SKELLINGTON – Elegant Minimalism

When creating a Halloween best dressed list, it would be hard not to include Jack Skellington. Whether you view The Nightmare Before Christmas as a Halloween or Christmas film, one thing is certain: Jack Skellington’s suit has become as iconic as the film itself. Jack wears a single-breasted pinstripe suit with a notch lapel and eye-catching collar.
The film, coming from the mind of Tim Burton, creates a vivid world that the audience feels they could step into. This is something we would capture using a Bateman Ogden pinstripe cloth from their Bespoke Flannel collection for the base of the suit. This cloth reflects the styling of Halloween Town, based on the pen and ink illustrations of Ronald Searle and Edward Gorey.
Inspired by the costumes of Tim Burton, our pinstripe suit for Jack would be finished with a gothic lining from the Flash Collection by Huddersfield. While perhaps a little on the nose, the lining reflects the gothic tailoring. The suit will be adorned with opulent Mother-of-Pearl buttons, referencing the character’s skeletal nature.
